Since there are few landing gear sets available on the market for this scale, we took on the challenge and designed a lightweight yet sturdy retractable landing gear. To achieve the ground clearance required for FES drives, the steering knuckles were extended by 25 mm.
The side panels of the 1:4.0 scale chassis with 90 mm wheels are made of 4.0 mm GRP (black). All milled edges have been finished so that these parts pose no risk of injury and feel very pleasant to the touch.
The steering knuckles are made of 4.0 mm high-strength aluminum (AW 7075 T6) and mirror-polished.
A new feature is the mounting of the wheel drive servo: It is mounted on the rear side between the side sections, eliminating the need for servo wings on the sides. A 10 mm wing servo with 10 kg/cm torque at high voltage is used. The mounting holes for M2 screws are formed as brass inserts pressed into the GRP.
Thanks to this design, the landing gear is very narrow and fits easily into any 1:4.0 scale fuselage.
Weight-optimized and aesthetically pleasing design thanks to CNC-machined geometry. Due to the mechanical design, the wheel is securely locked in the extended or retracted position. This prevents the wheel from extending due to centrifugal forces, for example during a loop.
- Mounting in the glider is secured between two frames or at the rear together with the rubber swing mount
- The landing gear is locked in place at the front with a cross brace in the main frame
- The installation height of the single-wheel landing gear in the fuselage is adjustable
- The moving parts are mounted in brass bushings
The basic configuration consists of:
- the two side panels in 4.0 mm GRP / black
- The two wheel arms made of 4.0 mm high-strength aluminum (extended by 30 mm compared to the standard landing gear)
- The required spacer bolts
- Servo mount for a 10 mm wing servo with M2 lock nuts and matching screws
- the swivel mechanism, including drive lever
- The required stainless steel screws
- 1 90 mm foam rubber wheel with aluminum rim and ball bearings
All landing gear sets have a modular design and can therefore be customized.
The following optional accessories are available for the landing gear:
Wheel cover
Wheel bracket
Wheel thrust brake (the servo for operating the brake is mounted in front of the main spar and is pulled by a cord)
Linkage with two M3 clevises and a CFRP tube over the M3 threaded rod
Rubber bushings at the rear with small rubber bushings, 15 mm diameter, and M4 mounting
Weight: The landing gear weighs 339 grams in standard configuration and 441 grams in full configuration. We have deliberately accepted a few extra grams of weight here in favor of a very stable and durable landing gear.
NEW: We have now also designed this landing gear size so that rear rubber bushings can be used. To achieve this, the recess for the mounting bracket on the front has been modified. This mounting now allows for approximately 30 mm of upward movement of the landing gear at the rear, enabling the rubber bushings to function properly. If the rubber bushings are not used and the landing gear is installed securely between two frames, the GRP clamp at the front secures the landing gear firmly in the frame.
